Storage PDF Print E-mail

The flat stores at Drumlithie are capable of storing some 50,000 tonnes of grain but with divisions for different commodities and qualities, a typical harvest will see 25-30,000 tonnes dried, conditioned and stored through Broadwood Grain Cooperative Ltd.
As well as straightforward drying, a significant tonnage of barley is chemically preserved.
If the natural barley is within the desired 16-21% moisture range, it can be purchased on our “Propcorn” scale of deductions. With higher fuel costs and increased drying charges necessitated, it can offer a better marketing option than even drying it on farm. As with malting barley, a sample can be taken and an “as seen” bid placed on a barley lot.
